Leadership perspectives

From Pete November, Chief Executive Officer, and Andrew Wisdom, Chairman of the Board

As we reflect on all that we achieved at Ochsner Health in 2023, we are immensely grateful and energized for the future.

We are proud of the milestones we achieved and the patients and families whose lives we improved. And we are appreciative of the team members, clinicians, communities, partners and supporters who trusted us, and in turn contributed immeasurably to our progress toward a brighter, healthier future. Thank you all for being an essential part of an important year.

Together, we made significant strides to deliver exceptional care and an unmatched experience for the people we serve, build new care models that streamline and improve our practice, embrace innovative partnerships and technologies, educate the next generation of expert clinicians, and make our communities stronger and healthier. In the pages that follow, you’ll find stories of how we:

  • Put patients first: Transformational cancer care has changed course in the Gulf South through our partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center, accelerating critical advancements in the care and access to clinical research our patients need most. Breaking ground on the new Debra H. and Robert J. Patrick Neuroscience Center means our leading patient-centered and interdisciplinary neuroscience programs will be accessible to more patients, as we become the only freestanding facility of its kind between Houston and Atlanta. And the announcement of a new home for the consistently top-ranked Ochsner Children’s Hospital will extend critical and life-changing access to leading treatments for our region’s children in over 30 specialties and subspecialties.
  • Focus on people: For 82 years, Ochsner has been driven by a mission to serve our communities and deliver exceptional care and outcomes. Our team members are expert leaders in their fields, and together we have embarked on an intentional journey to strengthen our culture of wellness, inclusivity, trust, belonging and excellence. This path includes greater investments in the employee experience and a deepened commitment to train and educate the next generation of healthcare professionals. Over the past year we advanced important partnerships with Delgado Community College and Xavier University of Louisiana, while expanding educational programming and mentorships that encourage early interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and show young learners the world of possibilities in healthcare.

We are appreciative of the team members, clinicians, communities, partners and supporters who trusted us, and in turn contributed immeasurably to our progress toward a brighter, healthier future.”

  • Elevate our communities: A central part of our mission is to help make the Gulf South a place where all our friends and neighbors want to live, study, work and grow. That includes investing in neighborhood care facilities and community health centers across the region, so people don’t need to travel far for coordinated, whole-person care. And it extends far beyond our walls and deep into schools, homes, organizations and community centers. From partnerships with nonprofits like Son of a Saint and educators like Discovery Schools to advocacy for programs and policies that help improve overall health and wellness, Ochsner took meaningful steps forward in how we support our communities.
  • Advance innovation: Last year, we built on the momentum of new care models like Ochsner Digital Medicine and expanded our Ochsner 65 Plus Clinics into Northwest Florida. Adopting new digital tools and technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI)-supported messaging and virtual nursing, is helping us enhance the quality care we provide and give clinicians more dedicated time with patients. Ochsner’s investments in emerging companies across the healthcare space are leading to innovative solutions for some of our greatest healthcare challenges while creating economic growth and new, quality jobs in Louisiana and neighboring communities.

These are just a few of the key investments and milestones among the countless ways Ochsner Health made a difference in the lives of our patients, families, communities and teams in 2023. This report demonstrates what we can accomplish when 38,000 people come together to serve, heal, lead, educate and innovate.

Thank you for making our work possible this past year, and for your ongoing commitment to health and our community’s greater good. We look forward to partnering with all of you to build on our remarkable progress and chart our destination forward.

Gratefully,

Pete November
